Description
A game with transparent playing cards to create imaginary beings that will appear when the cards are superimposed. The game invites us to observe carefully in order to then create. POPS stands for “Pequeños Objetos Poéticos” which means “Small Poetic Objects”, imaginary beings that emerge when the transparent cards are shuffled and layered, interweaving body parts with limbs, textures, and different expressions. Game objective is to create imaginary beings by layering transparent cards. The deck consists of 49 transparent cards and contains: Frames (3), textures (5), shapes/bodies (14), facial expressions (14), and arms, legs, accessories (13). Why a game to see and create? Shapes and colors are seeds for sprouting characters in our imagination. We start with basic figures and, by combining them, we find different beings. And each one wants to introduce itself and tell its own story. If we look closely, the things around us can be simplified into basic shapes: the head as a circle, the body as a rectangle… And at the same time, any shape can become something new: why not try what a character would look like with a square head? Colors trigger sensations, and they also surprise us: they change when mixed together and depending on the light they receive. Composing and decomposing with basic shapes and colors allows us to discover unimaginable possibilities, improve our observation skills, and enrich our imagination through unique creations. Game Suggestions POPS Freely take cards from the deck and layer them to create fun and original characters. They can mix and match different shapes, use frames or textures, combine facial expressions, and why not, add multiple limbs. Anything is possible! The Imaginary Being Factory (Two to four players) The goal is to create as many characters as possible. Each imaginary being must have at least two body shapes, one face shape, and one limb shape. Before starting, five cards are dealt to each player, and the rest of the deck is placed in the center. The player with two body shapes to place on the table goes first, and the round continues in the same way. If a player cannot add any parts, they draw a card from the deck and pass their turn. Once the body is complete, the face can be added, and then the limbs, one card at a time. Frames or textures can be added on the player's turn. It is possible to create new characters even if the first one is not yet complete. The game continues until the deck runs out. The player who creates the most imaginary beings wins. In case of a tie, the player who used the most cards to create them will win. Which is Which (two or more players) One player creates three imaginary beings and presents them to the rest of the group: they have to give them a name and say something about them, including a characteristic of the image that helps to recognize them. For example: if yellow predominates, they can say that it loves French fries or call it "Sun." The rest of the players will have to guess which is which and explain why. These variations can be played individually or in a group, orally or in writing. Meet… Take several cards from the deck and create two imaginary beings as you like. Then introduce them to each other. Give them names, describe what they do, what they like to do and what they don't… whatever comes to mind. You can also comment on some of the reasons why these beings are like that.
