These are my ancient galley rules, whilst they are designed to be played with miniature models on a hex based sea mat they work perfectly well with a plain sea mat and a tape measure, you just have to do a little more measuring. They are FUN, think sea battle in Ben Hur, these are hollywood naval battles. Ship types include Triremes, Quadriremes, Quinquereme and Hepteres, rules exist for super seamanship skills and superior marines, think Carthage vs Rome. A game with 20 ships a side can easily be played to a conclusion in 2-3 hours.
