Description

Buyout is 3–6 player semi-cooperative bidding and tableau-building game where players take the role of portfolio managers at a private equity firm facing an imminent hostile takeover and mass layoff. When the Buyout Trigger hits, players must collectively pool enough money to outbid the takeover, but each player also needs to contribute their fair share and secretly complete a hidden (potentially hostile) Performance Goal to avoid getting laid off. Players will race to acquire income-generating Assets and favors from Contacts to stay ahead of the group. The tension between ruthless competition during card acquisition and the forced cooperation of the endgame counteroffer is the heart of the game: the same players you just stabbed in the back are the ones you need on your side when it counts. —description from the publisher
