Description

Tatuingo (from Umbra: tãtũĩõ, meaning “knotted cord”) is a mancala game for two players: North and South. It is played on a rectangular board with 2 parallel rows of 9 pits per side and two stores, one at each end. Each player controls the nearest row and the store on their left. At the start of the game, each pit contains 5 beans and both stores are empty. Turns:South plays first, then turns alternate. On your turn, perform the following actions in order: 1. Harvest by taking all the beans from one of your pits. 2. Sow by distributing the beans, one per pit, starting with the next pit in the sowing direction determined by the parity of the harvested pit: Even: clockwise direction Odd: counter-clockwise direction 3. You may choose the direction opposite to the one indicated by the pit's parity only if, by sowing in that direction, at least one bean will be sown into an opponent's pit. During sowing, stores are always skipped, except your own if it receives the last bean; in that case, you take another turn. A pit containing exactly 7 beans is protected and cannot be captured. The protection ends as soon as it no longer contains exactly 7 beans. Captures:All captured beans are taken from the opponent's row and placed into the corresponding player's store. There are two types of capture: Origin–destination match: You capture if, after sowing is complete, the destination pit contains the same number of beans as the harvested pit contained. Adjacent match: You capture if, after sowing is complete, the destination pit contains the same number of beans as one of its orthogonally adjacent pits: If the destination is an opponent's pit, compare it with the pit to its left, right, or directly opposite. If the destination is one of your pits, compare it only with the pit directly opposite. End of the game:The game ends in either of two ways: If a player collects 46 or more beans in their store, they win immediately. Otherwise, after the final move: The player who empties all the pits in a single row (their own or the companion's) takes the remaining grains to his store. The winner is the one with the highest total score in their store. —description from the designer
