The stunning euphoric victory quickly turned into a desperate battle of survival for the Germans as they try to hold their positions that cut-off the Russian 62nd Army. Within days, the Germans were in dire situations by Aug.28th. The Russians quickly massed three tank corps opposite their flank that stretched for 25 miles or more and moved newly formed armies also. The first Kotluban Offensive began on Sept.1 and slowly began to cut off the 16th Panzer Division again. The next few days were critical for either side.
