🏳️‍🌈 Why it’s here

What we found
  • Queer themes
    According to the game’s rulebook
“The language of diseased and infected is a deliberate reclamation of ableist, sinophobic, transphobic, and xenophobic rhetoric.”
  • Tagged queer by its creator
According to the creator’s own tags on itch.io

🤝 Inclusive design Inclusive design is separate from a game’s queer labels. It marks games whose design is deliberately inclusive even when not queer-themed: romance or marriage mechanics with no gender constraint, character creation without a forced gender binary, gender-neutral rules language, or table safety tools. Each marker shows where we found it.

  • Safety tools (X-card, lines & veils, session zero)
    According to the game’s rulebook
“This game is intended to be uncomfortable, but not unsafe.”

Description

There is a new disease spreading among the population. It is not a virus, bacteria, or infection. It is an idea. A philosophy. An identity. A society does not cure a disease. It cures a person, it eradicates a disease. And you have become part of the disease. This is a draft of a game I made for a class on Disability Justice! It's primary purpose was to be a response to the texts we read in class, but I'd like to see if it could be a good game on its own as well. The first document is the game itself while the second is my final essay for the class, which goes into detail on how it connects to the class texts as well as other TTRPGs. It's definitely not required reading to understand the game, but I think it provides some interesting context! (Also I put so much time into writing it and I need to justify that somehow) I'm planning on workshopping this into a better game and making it look more professional too! I'd be very happy if you want to see where this goes and overjoyed if you wanted to give it a try and give me your thoughts on it!
