Description
Basic & Bizarre is a 1-page Lasers & Feelings hack about Spooky Teenagers trying to navigate and survive high school. Your school is full of students both Spooky and normal, and you unfortunately have to navigate dealing with them both. And teachers who hate you. And maybe a demon in the basement. Oh, and you aren’t the COOL kind of Spooky like vampires, werewolves, and faeries…you’re WEIRD Spooky. You’re basically bizarre. Play as a mothman oboe prodigy, or the broody dhampir child of the local vampire lord, or the mad scientist's creation who is fighting to play Valjean in the drama club's production of Les Mis! This game looks to explore being Spooky teenage outcasts as a metaphor for disability and queerness in high school (while also solving weird mysteries and facing off against strange situations). Your Spookyness has its downsides (such as a ghost who can't be heard by the living, so uses an tablet to communicate in class), but these are not treated as mechanical penalties in the game, but instead can complicate or change social situations So go on out there, do your homework at the last minute, sneak that bottle of illegal necromantic potion behind the bleachers, and stop the Tentacle Wizard from summoning up ghost pirates to ruin prom!
