🤝 Inclusive design Inclusive design is separate from a game’s queer labels. It marks games whose design is deliberately inclusive even when not queer-themed: romance or marriage mechanics with no gender constraint, character creation without a forced gender binary, gender-neutral rules language, or table safety tools. Each marker shows where we found it.

  • Safety tools (X-card, lines & veils, session zero)
    According to the game’s rulebook
“Please make sure everyone is comfortable with the subject matter before playing, and try to incorporate breaks if play gets to heated.”

Description

Your eyes meet across the crowded table, and you get lost in each other for a moment. Simultaneously, but with some hesitation, you reach out your hands underneath the table to share a fleeting touch with each other as the conversation flows around you. -- I can’t believe the food’s not here yet. I’m absolutely starving, and she keeps looking at me from across the table. If I have to wait much longer, I might not be able to stop myself from doing something I regret. I just hope no one is around to see. -- My lips meet his, slowly at first, but it quickly morphs into a flurry of zeal and desperation. Who knows when we’ll next get to be like this again; we’ve got to make it count. Someone’s throat is cleared behind us, breaking the spell. The waitress caught us entangled in each other, her face contorted into a grin. “Just wait, the whole town will hear about this one…” she says, as your hearts sink into your still-empty stomachs. -- TOO GAY FOR IBOP is a microttrpg zine that’s made to capture a very specific experience; specifically, being queer and closeted with a friend group that’s much the same, and trying to express the connection you feel while flying under the radar so neither of you get hurt. It can be run with any number of people (preferably 2-8), with minimal setup and equipment. All you should need is a place to sit, at least one d6, and something that can set a timer and record text (usually a phone). If you have access to them, you might also want to find two sets of related tokens to represent THIRST and HUNGER as you wait for your food. IBOP (the International Breakfast of Pancakes) is meant to be a nondescript pancake house with a large number of branches in towns across the country. It’s totally not based on any business in particular, and any resemblance to that particular business is totally coincidental. In your youth, it was a place you developed fond memories of, but the economy in recent years has caused them to shortstaff their kitchens, meaning there are extraordinarily long wait times to get your food. Nevertheless, they’re one of the few places in your small town that’s open late with warm food, and if not for the long wait and homophobia, it would be the ideal place to hang out with your friends after a long day. IBOP isn’t necessarily a specific place; it’s more a state of mind, and image frozen in time. The PDF for TOO GAY FOR IBOP might look strange at first, but that’s how it’s supposed to be! It’s a zine, so the intent is for you to print and fold it to make a convenient little booklet. As part of the Lean Green Zine Jam, it’s intended for you to be able to print in full color, but that may not always be possible. Currently, TOO GAY FOR IBOP is in its playtest version; the text and rules are pretty much finalized, but they may be adjusted based on feedback I receive, and currently only the cover art is finished and available. As such, there are several blank pages in the zine itself, and it's currently pay-what-you-want. After it's finished, I'll probably take this down and reupload it with the full art. I hope you enjoy!
