Description
The Fledgling and the Vale is a queerly ceremonial two-player game of cards, dance of questions, ritual of mutual discovery. The Fledgling longs to flee the Grey World that imprisons them. The Vale longs for the Fledgling to arrive. Through asking each other questions read through themes of community and belonging, land and place, magic and visions, and love and desire, the players will build a story about escape, home, community -- about being lost and being found, and the price of each. The Fledgling and the Vale is also easily used as a solo and/or journalling game. The game was inspired by fantasist Sylvia Townsend Warner's magical 1926 novella, Lolly Willowes. It doesn't give away specific details of the plot, but it does follow the overall arc, so if you don't want to be spoiled for the book, read that first. Created for the Gaming Like it's 1926 Game Jam.
